What is Neuro-Linguistic Programming Or NLP
In a nutshell, Neuro-Linguistic Programming known as NLP for short is the study of excellence. Originally created by Richard Bandler and John Grinder by modeling successful psychotherapists. Now I know your wondering what the heck psychotherapy has to do with sales. In a word, everything. In sales all we do is attempt to communicate our ideas to another person. We are successfully instilling our beliefs about our product or service into another person. The fact is, if you, as a salesperson cannot create an image in your prospects mind of owning your product or service, that prospect will not buy your product. This is where NLP comes into play.
Lets look at it from a different standpoint. We all know the old adage that everyone is in sales. We’re all persuading people all day long. As salespeople we take it to the next level. We have decided to truly serve people and our community by helping them improve their lives with what we have to offer. That is a big responsibility. Now imagine, you are a psychotherapist. You have a client in your office who has a problem. This person needs help. Its now your job as a psychotherapist to persuade this person into thinking a different way about their problem. If you can convince your client the problem can be solved and give them the solution, then that client will be cured. Sound familiar? Just like when you go to a prospect who has a problem that your product or service can solve. You have the answer your prospect needs and they are coming to you for answers. Your job is to implant a different way of thinking into your prospect. A better way of thinking. Having them imagine life without the problem by owning the solution you are selling them.
Neuro linguistic programming is then the “how to” of extremely effective communication. This means, when you learn the secrets of NLP and apply them in your sales and marketing, you will be a master communicator. You will artfully get your message across in a way that is completely flowing a natural. A way in which bypasses quite a bit of the conscience minds objections. NLP truly makes sales so much easier and more natural.
