NLP Sales: The Best Handshake

When greeting someone for the first time, the standard greeting is to shake hands.  There seems to be plenty of information on the basics of shaking hands.  Have a firm grip, pump two to three times.  Make sure you smile.

How about the mental aspects.  Well that’s where NLP comes in.  A couple of tips I use for shaking hands.  Make sure you are thinking a pleasant thought.  Something that makes you happy.  When someone meets you, they unconsciously begin to get in rapport with you.  Make sure that they get a good feeling from you because of what your thinking.  They will then unconsciously anchor feeling good around you.  First impressions really are that important.  It is much easier to anchor someone to something than to change that anchor.

The second tip I have is to really look at the color of the other person’s eyes.  Doing this will give you a real outward focus.  This actually makes you more confident because your attention is on the other person.  Confident people don’t spend time thinking about their shortcomings.  By focusing outwards, you avoid dwelling on your shortcomings.

My two tips for you are simple.  Think a pleasant thought and make sure you are outwardly focused.  This will give you the appearance and the actions of a confident and happy person.  Exactly who you need to be to close a sale.

    Ryan,

Thank you so much for the great tips. It makes such a huge difference when people physically make contact with one another. These days, people tend to do a “automatic” handshake and not be consciously aware of their thoughts at the time of contact. I really appreciate your reminder to look outward. I’m ready to go close a sale!
