NLP Sales: Cause or Effect Part 1

by Ryan Camana on October 15, 2009

How would you like to feel totally in control of your life?  To have that sense that everything is at it should be.  Well, one of the main beliefs that has worked wonders in my life, is the practice of being at cause.  I promise you, if you accept this idea and put it into practice, your life will be more rewarding in every area.  Now you notice I said the practice of being at cause.  Today, we are going to delve into the the theory of cause vs effect.  Tomorrow we will go more into detail of how to put it into practice.

So we start with the diagram below:

C > E

This diagram can be understood a few different ways.  Cause is greater than effect.  Or cause leads to effect.  Whatever way you look at it, you can grasp that cause and effect have some relationship.

Now that you understand the basics, lets get into the definition.  Cause is defined as “a person or thing that acts, happens, or exists in such a way that some specific thing happens as a result; the producer of an effect.”  That holds true to our formula.

Effect on the other hand is defined as “something that is produced by an agency or cause.”  Stay with me for just a moment and you’ll understand this.

You’ll agree that everything in your current life situation has a cause.  And that everything that you experience is the effect of some cause.  That is everything that happens to you, around you, or in your world has some cause.

Now the question is, where is this cause located.  Are you blaming everything around you for the parts of your life you don’t like?  Or are you taking control of your life and being the cause of everything that happens to you?  Just think about that.  Is the economy bringing your sales down or is it your belief that the economy is bad that is bringing your sales down.  Couldn’t you learn a few more techniques and increase your closing ratio?  How about learn to market in a new way?

The interesting thing that I’ve noticed, is the people who were doing poorly before the economy are still doing poorly.  Those who were doing well before the economy went south are still doing well.

So why is that?

We’ll get that to that in part 2 of Cause or Effect.
