How Is A Goal A Goal?
A goal is something that is stated specifically. I want to be happy is not specific. Happy is a feeling. You can have the feeling of happiness any time you want. Just think of a time you were happy. Float down into your body, feel what you felt, hear what you heard, see what you saw. Any feeling you want can be had this way.
A goal needs to be written. By writing a goal more of your brain is involved. The more you feel, hear and see something the more real it becomes.
A goal has a time limit involved. Without a limit a goal is not defined. A goal is like a step on the way to the top of a mountain. Without telling yourself when you are going to take that step, you’ll never know when you’ll get around to beginning the journey. How about you start now! That would be good, wouldn’t it?
A goal can be broken down into smaller chunks. This makes the overwhelming much easier. Write one page a day and you can easily have book written in 6 months. A page a day is simple and actionable. Keep tasks actionable and doable in a short time frame. Reward yourself for the smaller tasks and they’ll quickly become habits.
A goal is measurable. You can look back and all the steps you took to see how far you’ve come. It also helps to see how many steps you have to go. If an outcome is not measurable then it is really not an outcome. You need a quantifiable goal to make it achievable.
Most important a goal is for YOU. Its great to be working for world peace. But what is world peace going to do for you. Everyone is interested in themselves. That includes you. If a goal is not personal you’ll have no reason to pursue it to the end. Always make sure you achieve for yourself.
