Quite a bit of media focuses on the law of attraction. And rightfully so. Whether you believe in the metaphysical or not, the law of attraction does work. Say you don’t believe in the metaphysical. Lets look at it from the standpoint of your mind. Millions and millions of bits of information are coming into your reality any second of the day. But you have a limit. Your conscious mind can only keep track of seven plus or minus two chunks of information. This is akin to being in a submarine which is taking in all the information of the ocean all at once but you can only see through a tiny porthole. The question then is what do you pay attention too?
That is where the unconscious mind’s programming comes into play. This can be described as the very embodiment of the law of attraction. You see, hear and feel what your unconscious mind has been programmed to display to you. Say for instance you have the belief that oppurtunity is everywhere. Then your seven chunks will often include opportunity.
Almost like a bloodhound on the search for something, your mind can be given a “scent” of something you want and it will find that something for you. The simplest way I’ve found to put your mind on a scent, is to write a future journal or future diary. This is a simple exercise, so do it right now.
Here are the instructions:
In a notepad, on a whiteboard, a napkin, computer program or whatever, write tomorrow’s date and then write out what will happen to you. That’s it. If your writing this first thing in the morning then write it out with today’s date. Just make sure to write it as if the day is already over and your about to go to bed. Now be realistic about it so your unconscious can take it seriously. Don’t write, “A dragon flew down from a mountain top and dumped a pile of gold in my swimming pool.” That’s just ridiculous! Your unconscious mind knows this and it isn’t going to happen.
For instance, I wrote down for today, “I wrote a sales letter for a new product I am releasing. I found it extremely simple. The words just flowed out. Then I took a fantastic bike ride down on the beach. After the bike ride I finished the book I was reading. Then a friend of mine called. We went out on the town and had blast of a Friday night.”
None of that has happened yet. Will all of it happen? Maybe. Will it be much more likely to happen now that I’ve future paced it? Absolutely.
If you’re in sales write down how many sales you had (as if you had a perfect day) and how many new leads you received. Just make sure to write it as if you were at the end of the day looking back on that perfect day. This is a process of active imagination. It’s OK to stretch it, just don’t be unrealistic. If you normally sell two widgets a day try writing that you sold three widgets. It may take a few days but your mind will eventually catch on and you’ll start selling three widgets. If you imagine something long enough it is much more likely to happen.
Let me know how it works for you.
